Getting started

What is Peppol and why does it matter for my business?

Peppol is the EU-standard network for sending electronic invoices directly to government systems. Since January 2024, all Irish businesses supplying goods or services to public sector bodies — including HSE, county councils, government departments, and education bodies — are required to submit invoices via Peppol. PDF invoices are no longer accepted by most Irish public bodies.

Do I need to set up Peppol myself?

You need a Peppol Access Point to actually transmit invoices over the network — we don’t provide that. What we do is generate a fully compliant UBL 2.1 (Peppol BIS Billing 3.0) XML file and a matching PDF for every invoice, correctly formatted to the standard your Access Point (or your recipient) expects. You can upload the UBL file to your own Access Point, or email the PDF directly.

How long does it take to get started?

There’s no waiting period. Complete your company profile and you can generate your first invoice immediately.

Can I use PeppolInvoice.ie if I am a sole trader?

Yes. Sole traders can register using their PPS number in the format IE followed by 7 digits and a letter (e.g. IE1234567T). You are required to send Peppol invoices to public bodies just like any limited company.

Sending invoices

Which Irish government bodies can I invoice?

We support all four central access points: NSSO (National Shared Services Office, covering all central government departments), HSE (Health Service Executive), LGMA (Local Government Management Agency, covering county councils), and ESBS (Education Shared Business Services, covering ETBs). You can also enter a custom Peppol ID for any other registered entity.

What if I don’t have my own Peppol Access Point?

You can still email the PDF invoice directly to your recipient. For Peppol network delivery specifically, you’ll need an Access Point — several providers offer simple sign-up with no minimum volume, and your invoice is already generated in the correct UBL format they expect.

What VAT rates are supported?

We support all standard Irish VAT rates: 0%, 9%, 13.5%, and 23%. Each line item can have its own VAT rate.

Can I send invoices to private companies?

Currently PeppolInvoice.ie is optimised for B2G (business to government) invoicing in Ireland. Private companies can receive Peppol invoices if they are registered on the network — you can enter their Peppol ID manually.

Billing & plans

What is included in the Free plan?

The Free plan includes 1 compliant invoice (PDF + UBL XML) per month. No credit card required.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

Yes. Cancel any time from your account settings. You keep access until the end of your billing period — no pro-rata deductions.

What is the Pay as you go option?

If you only need to send one or two invoices, you can pay €5.99 per invoice with no subscription. Each purchase grants one invoice send.

Is my data secure?

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. We are hosted on EU infrastructure and never share your invoice or company data with third parties. Your VAT number and IBAN are stored securely and used only to generate the invoice XML.

Technical

What invoice format does PeppolInvoice.ie generate?

We generate UBL 2.1 XML in the EN 16931 format — the mandatory European standard for Peppol invoices. This is fully compliant with the Irish National Standard (IS EN 16931-1).

Can I get a copy of the invoice XML?

Yes — every invoice has a "Download UBL XML" button alongside the PDF, available immediately after generation. Your full invoice history is visible in your dashboard too.
